16.2% of Southern Nevadans are food insecure.

A recent study done by both the local food bank Three Square andFeeding America found that in 2012 16.2% of Southern Nevadans did not know where their next meal is coming from. “This translates to 344,580 people.” Three Square has broken down Clark County into a percentage map by zip code. Three Square Food Bank President and CEO Brian Burton said, “As we take a look at these new numbers, it just reminds us that food-insecure families live in all neighborhoods and we have seen this in the maps year after year. With the update, Three Square sees a stronger correlation between hunger and housing.”

In trying to help the community, Three Square has partnered with local restaurants to help raise awareness and support for the issue. “Participating restaurants offer pre-fixe meals at special prices and a portion of each bill goes to Three Square to help end hunger in Southern Nevada. The event is known as Las Vegas Restaurant Week 2013, and goes from August 23rd to the 30th.”food.jpg
