According to a new PPP poll, 41 percent of Republicans who answered the survey said that Benghazi is the biggest political scandal in American history. 43% said it was not, and another 16% were unsure. Only 10% of Democrats and 20% of Independents answered yes to that question.
When asked if Benghazi was worse than Watergate or Iran Contra, the numbers jump to the 70% range.
These numbers are probably astonishing to some people. Scandals make great news, and the press has been obliged to go with the story. It’s certainly having some impact on public opinion, though it should be noted that the same poll says more people trust Hillary Clinton than Congressional Republicans on the issue of Benghazi.
Further proof that stirring up a false controversy can be effective. People usually don’t hear the responses or the corrections that occur after a story happens… like these recently leaked emails everyone has been up in arms about have turned out to have been falsified.
