In honor of LGBT Pride Month, the Ramirez Group’s Daily Snippet is that the United States has a 9 million LGBT population. That is roughly the same population as the state of New Jersey. It’s about 4% of the entire population of the United States. In the infographic below you’ll find a breakdown of the gay, lesbian and transgender makeup of the total LGBT population.
The data for today’s fact comes from the Williams Institute at the UCLA Law School. It should be noted here that these numbers only reflect self-identification, or as they say people who are openly such. The study also suggests that as much as 12% of the population admits to some same-sex sexual attraction.
