Do you check-in on social media? If you said yes, you are part of a growing number of people according to Pew Internet research.
Among adult social media users ages 18 and older, 30% say that at least one of their accounts is currently set up to include their location in their posts.
That’s up from 14% of users who said they had done this in 2011. Location services are already a large part of smart phone usage with some 75% of owners using them. The ability to check in is often integrated with such services.
Some businesses are getting creative with incentives to get people to check-in while at their locations. Cisco and Facebook are teaming up to offer free wi-fi at various locations. All you have to do is check-in on Facebook.
Other businesses offer a free drink, a coupon, or a discount to entice people to check-in on services such as FourSquare.
