How Many Apples Produced Worldwide?

Johnny Appleseed was born on this day 239 years ago. He helped cultivate apples as an American main fare… you know, American as apple pie. Just how big is the apple industry worldwide?

69 tonnes of apples were grown worldwide in 2010.

That according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Apples are one of the most cultivated tree fruits in the world. China is the largest grower of apples, claiming half of the worldwide production. The United States comes in second place with 6% of world production.

Apples are known to be a healthy fruit with low calories and high filling fiber, hence “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Here at the Ramirez Group, we often enjoy a good sliced apple with  some Tajin (pictured right), which contains chili powder, lime, and salt. Delicious.

True, Americans didn’t invent apple pie, but many believe we perfected it. It also became so common place, the idiom was born “easy as pie.”
