How Many Deaf People in the United States

September 22-29 is Deaf Awareness Week. Hearing loss is a larger problem than most people are aware of. Though the U.S. Census has not counted the number of deaf people in the nation since 1930, there are statistics for how many people suffer from significant hearing loss. Daily Snippet:

Approximately 12% of the U.S. population or 38 million Americans have a significant hearing loss.

In addition, 30-40% of people over 65 have some type of hearing loss according to the Center for Hearing and Communication.  It is estimated that there are 15 million people with hearing loss living without treatment.
