How Many Single People in United States

September 16 – 22 is National Singles Week. So how many single people are celebrating this week in the United States? What are some of the changing trends of marriage in the U.S.?  Daily Snippet:

There are 102 million unmarried people in America 18 and older (2011)

Census data indicates that 53% of unmarried people over 18 are females, and 47% are males.

According to Sabrina Tavernise over at the New York Times, who cites the Brookings Institute, married couples represented 48% of American households in 2010. That number is way below the 78% of households occupied by married couples in 1950. Additionally, only a fifth of households represented the traditional family (mother, father and children) compared to 48% in 1950.
