Without a doubt, the United States economy has been through some major ups and downs and some major changes over the past few decades. In less than 25 years, the top industries look dramatically different (see infographic).
From 1990 to 2013, the top industries by employment have changed from mostly manufacturing to mostly health-care and social-assistance jobs in the majority of states.
That’s according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics published today.
The report indicates: “The largest increase in healthcare and social assistance employment in the states occurred in 2009, as retail trade, manufacturing, and other industries showed declines with the onset of the most recent recession.” Manufacturing fell below health care in number of jobs in 2004.
