In 1996, 66% of internet users were in the United States according to Mashable. Seventeen years later, the story is completely different.
Only 13% of internet users are in the United States.
The largest group of internet users are in Asia at 42%. Europe is home to a still larger proportion of internet users at 27%.
When you look at internet use per 100 persons, the United States still falls far below first place. In fact, the United States, with 81 of 100 people who use the internet, ranks number 26 behind mainly northern European nations according to data from the World Bank.
